The Pre-Startup Cohort is a four-week, fully online experience that assembles international founders into startup teams ready to operate in Canada. You will not only meet potential co-founders—you will also test your compatibility, stress-check ideas, master Canadian market requirements, and gear up for the next stage of growth.
Pre-Startup Cohort Program
Launch Prep
Objective: Create a shared launchpad where every participant introduces their background, goals, and preferred role.

  • Two-minute introductions: who you are, what you’ve done, where you’re heading
  • Choose a provisional role — Business · Tech · Product · Design · Growth
  • Swap early ideas and the industries that excite you
  • Build first connections in Zoom discussions and breakout rooms
  • Primer on setting up a Canadian company: legal structure, key regulations, and how Designated Organizations work

Week Insight: The Canadian market rewards transparent, well-researched, and realistic business models. From day one you’ll learn which approaches stand the best chance of success here.
Week 1 — Profiles, Networking & Goals
Objective: Move from introductions to real collaboration by testing how you work together in uncertain conditions.

  • Value Proposition Canvas workshop
  • Group problem analysis and opportunity mapping (Problem–Solution Fit)
  • Trial micro-teams to flesh out draft concepts
  • Common pitfalls for foreign startups: legal hurdles, hiring, go-to-market channels
  • Walk-through of the Startup Visa pathway with a Designated Organization

Week Insight: Alongside idea work, you will see real interaction patterns emerge. We add deep dives into Canada’s B2B and B2C culture — trust, transparency, agility, compliance.
Week 2 — Compatibility, Ideas & Structure
Objective: Polish the concept, lock in the team, and map the road to launch with Starta Canada.

  • Final pitches with the full team on deck
  • Mentor and feedback
  • Startup Visa eligibility check (on request)
  • Letter of Intent confirming future collaboration
  • CBGA decision on advancing the project to the next phase

Week Insight: We continue only with teams that demonstrate readiness, compatibility, and genuine entrepreneurial potential. It’s not an exam, but it is a rigorous filter built on four weeks of observation.
Week 3 — From Idea to Solution
Objective: Re-create a project’s first sprint: joint planning, MVP build, and live hypothesis testing.

  • Design Sprint — each team runs a condensed cycle from problem to prototype
  • Rapid prototypes, landing pages, and interactive demos
  • Internal review of business potential against Designated-Organization criteria
  • Draft pitches, rehearsal, and feedback

Week Insight: This is where teams prove they can turn ideas into outcomes — timing, role clarity, communication, and self-management all count.
Week 4 — Finalisation & Go/No-Go
